OAU Wins 8million Dollars World Bank Grant(as best Nigeria University)

In furtherance of its ratings as the best University in Nigeria, the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, has won a Grant of eight (8) million dollars by the World Bank.

In a release by the Public Relations Officer of the University, Mr. Abiodun Olarewaju, it stated that the Grant, which is for three (3) years for the establishment of an African Centre for Excellence with specific focus on OAU Knowledge Park (OAK-Park).

An elated Vice-Chancellor, Professor Bamitale Omole, whose administration has recorded several firsts within two and a half years into his five-year tenure, affirmed that the OAK-Park will create a nationally recognised and internationally acknowledgedmodel for uptake and commercialization of research and technology which will advance the growth of the nation’s industry.

Enumerating the importance of the centre to the overall development of mankind, Prof. Omole noted that the  centre will ensure the systematic incubation of research of research ideas and products from OAU and other partnering institutions in the West Africa sub-regions.

The objection, Prof. Omole said, is to annex the creative and innovative energy of the teeming youths into entrepreneurial endeavour by using appropriate skill-enhancing training and mentoring. He specifically said that the OAK-Park facility will, among other things, aspire to stimulate creativity and excellence in research and innovation, expand learning opportunities for OAU staff and students and, indeed, other researchers from the region.”

Underscoring the importance of the centre, Prof. Omole observed that its facilities would also aim at establishing a framework for enhanced research result appropriation and utilization for the community, regional  and national development which by extension, will further enhance OAU’s and other collaborating institutions’ relavance to their respective mandate.

He added that “the centre is also geared towards the developments of the next generation of scientists, researchers, teachers, entrepreneurs and product developers through appropriate practice-anchored capacity building measures.

These include industrial immersion schemes, leverage on industry resource support for critical skills development of academics, students and researchers, as well as targetted status enhancement enhancement training for industry staff in the university system”.

On how OAU was selected as one of the beneficiaries, the World Bank was said to have received 51 proposals from universities all over Africa, out of which 18 were selected  for funding after a rigorous and competitive process, and OAU proposal was among the best proposals that were eventually selected.

Prof. Omole further explained that OAK-Park as an African Centre of Excellence (ACE) will signal the dwan of a new development paradigm that boldly ventures to harness science, engineering, technology, innovation and indeed, the entire body of knowledge to investigate and sustain industrial development as a gateway for African prosperity.

Congrats!!! OAU

10 Amazing Facts About Lionel Messi

Lionel Messi is widely accepted  to be the best player in the world even after losing the Dogs baloon d’or award to fellow La liga rival ‘CRISTIANO RONALDO                                      Some even believe the Argentine player is the best to have ever played the beautiful game, At 23 years of age he has accomplished much more than anyone could have hoped for and his life is pretty much an open book for soccer betting fans around the globe.

However, there are some things that you probably didn’t know about the Barcelona star player.

1.) Messi’s style of play, impressive technical skills and small physique earned him comparisons with the legendary Diego Armando Maradona, and it is interesting that
the Barcelona forward managed to mimic Maradona’s two most famous goals he had scored in the World Cup game against England. Messi first scored a brilliant goal
after a solo effort against Getafe, before scoring with his hand against Espanyol in the very same season.

2.) Messi was asked to play for Spain national team, but he refused and decided to wait for a call-up from Argentina. Had it been he accepted a call from La Furia Roja, the Argentine would now have probably owned World Cup winner’s medals.

3.) His debut for Argentina lasted for around 40 seconds. That was the time he spent on the pitch before being sent off. The fact that he hadn’t deserved the red card was probably poor consolation at the particular time.

4.) You will also be surprised to hear that not only girls drop their panties in front of LEO Messi, but some guys as well. A man was so desperate to snap a picture with Messi that he chased the Argentine around the airport and when he finally thought he had caught him, a clothing failure prevented him from accomplishing his mission.

5.) In March 2010 , Messi became UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and he now works with the organization, helping children around the global world.

6.) While the whole world loves watching Messi from the comfort of their homes, the Barcelona star once said that he never watched highlights of himself.

7.) In the Champions League game against Panathinaikos, a Greek fan invaded the pitch only to show Messi the middle finger, probably tired of constantly watching the Argentine making fun of PAO’s defence.

8.) He won the 2009 Ballon d’Or award in front of Cristiano Ronaldo, by collecting 473 out of possible 480 votes. How do you think the Portuguese handled the results?

9.) Barcelona signed the Argentine when he was just 13 with the scouts needing just half an hour to realize the player’s massive potential. That will soon prove to be one of the best decisions in the history of football.

10.) Following Barcelona’s 6:2 victory over Real at Santiago Bernabeu, Messi achieved the unthinkable and received standing ovation from the home fans, having scored two goals to help his side record a memorable win. Cristiano Ronaldo would have nothing against getting the same treatment at Camp Nou, but Real will first have to beat Barca for that to happen.

[Breaking News] Manchester United Set to Sack David Moyes, Interim Coach Might Take Over

Old Trafford boss set to the axe after Stamford Bridge mauling.

Man United are ready to axe boss David Moyes following his side’s defeat at Stamford Bridge.

Naijaloaded understands that the Old Trafford outfit are ready to act after a fourth defeat in five matches heaped yet more pressure on the Scot with the Premier League title holders ready to appoint an interim managerial team to act as a short term option ahead of a more permanent solution in the summer.

Moyes has failed to impress in charge of Man United and whilst it was expected that the club would struggle to retain the level of success achieved under Sir Alex Ferguson there is a growing sense among those in positions of power at the club that the time has come to bid farewell to their current manager.
Man United have fallen way off the pace in the Premier League, defeat at Chelsea leaving them a massive 14 points off table topping Arsenal and six points off a top four finish, which is now seen as the very least the club expects from this troubled campaign, an aim that David Moyes is struggling to meet.

The club’s owners are ready to bite the bullet and sack Moyes, which would be a costly exercise, and would turn to an interim coaching team of Phil Neville and Ryan Giggs to steady the ship as the club look for a prominent managerial appointment either in the current season or in the summer, dependent on who is available to fill the post.

Man United’s owners are concerned that the continued fall from grace under Moyes could cause long term damage to the club’s reputation and the Glazers are all to aware that a failure to secure a top four finish could lead to a long term struggle to attract top quality players to the club as well as renewed investment from prospective sponsors.

The growing sense that Moyes has lost the respect of senior players in the Man United dressing room may seemingly prove the final straw as prepare to relieve the 50 year old of his duties.

“Nigerian Gays Might Start Committing Suicide” – Homosexual Reverend, Jide Macaulay

As Nigerians come to terms with the Same Sex Marriage Prohibition Bill signed by President Goodluck Jonathan a few weeks ago, renowned gay and founder of House of Rainbow Church, a church that harbors homosexuals and lesbians, Reverend Jide Macaulay, has come out to say that with the new law, gays in the country might start committing suicide since they would be denied their rights and freedom.

Rev. Macaulay also said that he has been receiving many calls, emails and online messages expressing fear, anger, anxiety and suicide attempts by his ‘people’.  This is how he expressed his worries:

“On January 7th, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan signed the Same Sex Marriage Prohibition Bill 2013 into law.

“The law bans same sex marriage, and through its wording, also seeks to criminalize people, organizations and agencies that support homosexuality and those who do not immediately report any known homosexuals, or homosexual activities.

“Since January12th, when the announcement was made, the LGBT-community has been thrown into panic. There is chaos throughout Nigeria as we are grappling with keeping up with mass arbitrary arrest, humiliation, blackmail, extortion and police corruption in several ‘charge and bail’ cases.

“The hostility in Nigeria against gay people has reached epic proportions. In the East of Nigeria, many are fleeing their homes. One gay man, labelled “a leader of the homosexual” is on the run. His parents and brother were threatened with arrest if they don’t provide information about his whereabouts.”

Premier League - Eto'o hat-trick eases Chelsea past hapless United

Premier League, Stamford Bridge - Chelsea 3 (Eto’o 17’ 45’ 49’) Manchester United 1 (Hernandez 78’)

Chelsea remained in the hunt for the Premier League after a 3-1 win over Manchester United at Stamford Bridge.

United started brightly but the best chance they created was an Ashley Young shot from a tight angle. They sent in plenty of crosses, but of such low quality it meant little.

Samuel Eto’o scored against the run of play after beating a static Phil Jones on the edge of his box, his shot looping off Michael Carrick’s ankle and over David de Gea. Shortly after, United should have had a penalty when Cesar Azpilicueta went through the back of Danny Welbeck.

Just before half-time, Eto’o got his second when he turned in Gary Cahill’s low cross when United failed to clear a corner.

Eto’o completed his hat-trick a few minutes after half-time, poking in his third after De Gea saved a Cahill header.

Despite a late Javier Hernandez goal, the game came to its inevitable conclusion, an easy Chelsea win. To make things worse for United, Nemanja Vidic saw red for a scything challenge on Eden Hazard and Rafael was lucky not so suffer a similar fate moments later.

KEY EVENTS

2’ - YOUNG CHANCE - In space on the left hand side of the box, Young’s shot is straight at Cech.

17’ - ETO’O GOAL - Eto’o easily evades Jones and has a shot deflected into the goal by Michael Carrick.

38’ - WELBECK MISS - Januzaj finds Welbeck in space in the box, and as he gets a shot away, he’s fouled by Cesar Azpilicueta, but the ref gives nothing.

45’ - ETO’O’S SECOND - United fail to clear a corner, allowing an unmarked Cahill to find an unmarked Eto’o at the near post.

49’ - ETO’O HAT-TRICK - More poor United defending as Valencia allows Eto’o to finish from two yards.

78’ - UNITED CONSOLATION GOAL - Hernandez slides in at the back post to pull a goal back, after Phil Jones’ shot was drifting wide.

90+1’ - VIDIC RED - A stupid, late and scything challenge from Vidic on Hazard gives him a marginally early bath     KEY STATS

Manchester United have lost seven Premier League games this season - the same as David Moyes' Everton side last year.

Javier Hernandez has scored in seven of his last 10 appearances in all competitions against Chelsea.

There have been five penalties awarded in the last four meetings between these two sides at Stamford Bridge.

There have been 25 goals scored in the last four matches between Chelsea and Manchester United at Stamford Bridge.

David Moyes has never won away from home to one of the Premier League’s traditional big four – Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool or Arsenal (P48 W0 D18 L30). Though he has now in a sense beaten United away from home against the big four.

Chelsea have won 17 and lost none of their last 20 Premier League games at Stamford Bridge (D3).

This was United’s first away defeat in the Premier League for eight matches.

MATCHCAST: FULL COMMENTARY AND PLAYER RATINGS

TALKING POINT

Will Moyes get the chance to overhaul the side in the summer? While he has been clearly let down by Edward Woodward, things may have deteriorated so badly over the course of the season that the Glazers might not trust him with another transfer window.

MAN OF THE MATCH

Samuel Eto’o (Chelsea): After a slow start to his Chelsea career, Eto’o has adapted well to his new side and his experience allows him to exploit half-chances and still trouble defences.
